Q: WHERE IS ZACH?
A: On Monday 29 June 2009 [Day 50], he’s in RICHMOND!
In the News: 11-year old Zach Bonner of Florida is walking from His House to the White House, this year completing the last portion from Altanta GA to Washington DC (665 miles) of his 3-year journey. And, Zach will be walking through our City on June 29th!
WHY?? Because it is the best way he can think of to draw awareness to the over 1.3 million homeless kids living in this country. And, several thousand of these “invisible” kids are right here in our community! Why can’t you see them? Because who wants people to know you don’t have a home?
Can you imagine what their lives are like? Hopefully, you never have to. BUT, you can make these members of our community more visible.
HOW? By putting your face, feet, voice, and heart to work for them.
Walk a Mile in My Shoes on Monday 29 June 2009:
@ 10 AM…Meet up with Zach and dozens of Richmond Youth @ 2nd and Hull Streets [Manchester side of Mayo Bridge] and walk 1 mile to the Bell Tower at the Capitol Grounds to raise public awareness for children without permanent homes who need our community’s, and our country’s, help.
@ 11 AM – 12 NOON…Join Virginia’s First Lady Anne Holton, Richmond City’s Mayor Dwight Jones, RPS Superintendent Dr. Yvonne Brandon, and other Richmond Community Leaders and Youth to welcome Zach Bonner to Richmond. Each will talk about what can be and is being done to help homeless children and families. And, that the smallest gesture, gift and person can and does make a huge difference!
If you miss us there…
Please come walk with Zach on his very last mile on 9 July 2009. You and friends can meet up with Zach @ 9:15 AM on the west side of the White House. Then walk through the National Mall to the Capitol, and show your support for ending homelessness – - every BODY counts! The more that walk the stronger the message.
You can also USE YOUR VOICE…
Zach would like you to write a letter to President Obama asking for his continued support in helping youth homelessness and promoting youth volunterism. Bring your letter on June 29th, July 9th, or send one via email and it will be printed and hand delivered with all the rest.
