April 28th, 2009 by Mark B · 3 Comments

Philadephia car-freedom ain’t free no more. The Illadeph blog has updates and a late-Friday bad news email to the previously free basic membership service–was pay for what and when you use, nothing more. Near as we can tell, the service is healthy and well-used (50k members), it’s just that the founders got booted when their [...]

April 23rd, 2009 by Mark B · 2 Comments

Yes, Silver Persinger productions brings us … The Thing many have heard of, few have seen, but most acknowledge must be exceedingly terrifying because, well, it’s from GRTC and, umm, so many are talking about it so authoritatively.

Fraser/Olson/Floricane: Richmond was, is, coulda, woulda, shoulda?

April 22nd, 2009 by Mark B · 2 Comments

Attended a creative/visualization workshop this morning hosted by the businesses of Peter Fraser, Ansel Olson and John Sarvay. Topic? A very productive and affirmative working exploration of Richmond’s tangible and intangible assets, story, context and vectors of meaning. Geez, that sounds buzzwordy, doesn’t it? Ignore the jargon. It was very refreshing and dynamic, using various [...]

Red Bull Art of Can is a nationwide hunt for creativity with annual exhibits in major cities [...]

Now *this* is harmonizing a baseball project: Potty Parity

April 13th, 2009 by Mark B · No Comments

New Ballpark Statistic: Stadium’s Toilet Ratio
If nothing else, $2 billion worth of baseball ballparks should buy shorter waits for the restrooms, at least for women… “potty parity” laws and ever-changing plumbing codes promise relief.
And in no place in New York City will those changes be felt more than in the restroom lines at the new [...]

NYT: Community Organizing Never Looked So Good

April 12th, 2009 by Mark B · No Comments

Equal and opposite reaction. That’s what I remember most about Newton’s laws from high school. It might be the most handy thing an observer of people might get from science. If not, maybe it’s what goes up must come down. Or that a motion continues until it’s interrupted by an external force…
